Common exclusions

Knowing exclusions helps you avoid surprises.

Misuse or improper installation

Damage from not following the manual or poor installation may not be covered.

Cosmetic damage

Dents and scratches are often excluded.

Power surges and acts of nature

Many warranties exclude these. Your homeowners or renters insurance may cover them.

Unauthorized repairs

Some warranties exclude damage caused by unauthorized repair work. Federal law generally prevents a warrantor from voiding coverage just because you used a third-party part or service, unless that caused the damage.

Commercial use

Appliances used in a business may not be covered.
