Step-by-step: filing a warranty claim

  1. Stop using it if unsafe

Unplug the appliance if it sparks, smells burnt or leaks.

  2. Find model and serial numbers

Look for the label inside the door, on the back or under the unit.

  3. Find your proof of purchase

Locate your receipt, email or statement.

  4. Check your coverage

Read the manufacturer warranty, then any extended plan or card benefit.

  5. Check for recalls

Look up the model on recall sites.

  6. Document the problem

Take photos or video showing the problem.

  7. Contact the warrantor

Call or use the online form, and get a claim number.

  8. Schedule service

Pick a time and ask how long repairs usually take.

  9. Keep notes

Record dates, names and what you were told.

  10. Review the repair

Make sure the problem is fixed before the technician leaves.

  11. Follow up in writing

If it is not fixed, send a written follow-up with your claim number.
